Hello, it’s me. Utilita State, back on the blogging horse. For those who don’t know, I’ve officially packed my things and moved across the Atlantic to cute little Belgium (hence the short interruption in post programming). After living in both the US and Singapore for good chunks of my life, I figure it’s time I try out the old western world of Europe. Plus, my photographer slash “love of my life” is over here so yaknow, it’s really just practical. Anyhoo, a few things I’ve noticed about this country so far: Everyone cycles and nobody wears helmets Skinny heels in cobbled…

The Glitter Knit
As the cold winter weather grows in strength, I always fall into a rut with my clothes. It happens year after year, a stretch of time when getting dressed becomes more a mission of bodily warmth than creative style. I despise it. In these mornings I open the closet and my hands, operating on auto-pilot, reach for the tank top + wooly knit combo that worked so well yesterday, and the day before, and OH YEAH, the day before that. Y’know sometimes in life, you just need a quick and nasty slap in the face – to remind you that…
Let’s Talk About It: The Pajama Trend
You know how sometimes when you’re walking through a Topshop or Zara-type store, there’s a certain trend that you keep seeing pop up. Like for example, right now – if you keep your eyes peeled – you will spot random embellishments and patch embroidery on all types of clothing. Skirts, button downs, jean jackets, you name it. These trends begin their journey subtle, inconspicuous, then, with the blink of an eye they’re everywhere, flying off racks. In reality, everyone has their own propensity in taking to fashion trends, and I realize I actually buy into them later than other style…
The Floral Wrap Top
Let me start by saying I “literally can’t even” with this top. It embodies everything I feel and trust about fashion: that a single piece of clothing can speak for my style and individuality. I love it so much here is a Haiku I wrote on what it means to me: “Modern black florals, An Asian inspiration, For utility” Gah, well clearly, I am no poet. But in searching for ways to communicate the mood, beauty, and poignant experience of this piece of clothing, I was left with no other choice but a haiku. Gomen’nasai. THE UTILITY: A straight up…
The Pinstriped Pants
Once upon a time, I told my Vice President that his work pants made him look like ‘an Italian pimp’. I’ll wait for the jaws to drop. Here’s the thing – while I am not proud of that memory in any way, I truly said those words in jest and admiration. I LOVE pinstripe pants, I wear mine all the time! For all occasions! Perhaps an alternative word could have been used but often times my speech tends to move faster than my brain (or common sense). There’s a reason why my thought/diary/ramblings post are filed under ‘UNFILTERED’. So let’s…
