You know how sometimes when you’re walking through a Topshop or Zara-type store, there’s a certain trend that you keep seeing pop up. Like for example, right now – if you keep your eyes peeled – you will spot random embellishments and patch embroidery on all types of clothing. Skirts, button downs, jean jackets, you name it. These trends begin their journey subtle, inconspicuous, then, with the blink of an eye they’re everywhere, flying off racks.
In reality, everyone has their own propensity in taking to fashion trends, and I realize I actually buy into them later than other style enthusiasts. Normally this is because the fad simply doesn’t reflect my personal style, or because I don’t have the $$$ to spend on those lush turquoise velvet ankle boots (shout out to all those who can afford them even when you KNOW they barely last 2 blocks in this winter weather… I wanna get on your gravy train). But nevertheless, these are the thoughts that itch at my mind, forcing me to keep searching for that one piece in the trend I can realistically see myself wear. So after many weeks, months of near-purchases, I finally found my “pajama-trend” item. PRAISE SWEET MOSES!
Admittedly, this PJ-thing has been rearing it’s louche head for many years as a seasonal trend. It’s the kind of returning statement that screams, FASHION IS FREE. You are permitted to dress however you’d like, even if that means wearing your sleepwear in the office. However as much as I appreciate this type of liberty, I feel at odds introducing my Netflix+chill to my Excel+grind colleagues… And that is exactly what makes this featured top so pivotal – it creates a bridge between these two worlds, while taking the best elements of the pajama trend such as vertical panels, V-shaped buttondown and loose shape. It also removes the typical lining you’d find on a pajama collar, creating an overall professional and polished look. This is elevated further by the small detail of adding a ruched cuff on the sleeves, preserving the design’s structure and proportions. It is the perfect blend of trendiness with timeless style – cuz you know here at Utilita State, we like function with our fashion ; )
