Hello, it’s me. Utilita State, back on the blogging horse. For those who don’t know, I’ve officially packed my things and moved across the Atlantic to cute little Belgium (hence the short interruption in post programming). After living in both the US and Singapore for good chunks of my life, I figure it’s time I try out the old western world of Europe. Plus, my photographer slash “love of my life” is over here so yaknow, it’s really just practical. Anyhoo, a few things I’ve noticed about this country so far: Everyone cycles and nobody wears helmets Skinny heels in cobbled…
Balenciaga’s Bernie Fall 2017
I woke up this morning to find something that truly fluttered my heart. With Fall 2017 menswear collections rolling through Paris FW, one designer has decided to take it next level. Demna Gvasalia of Balenciaga presented a campaign-themed Bernie Sanders-inspired collection, incorporating the iconic white and red campaign logo on blue bombers, vests, raincoats, and scarfs. I mean, I love fashion but with GRANDPA BERN inspiration!? I can’t breathe. Quick lesson: Demna Gvasalia is basically the king of Pop Culture-infused fashion. He is the head designer of Vetements, known for explosive, contemporary, “non-fashion but still designer” street style. Also under his…
The Camel Coat
Things that I did and did not accomplish in 2016: DID: 1. Start blogging 2. Get CPA license 3. Remove wisdom teeth DID NOT: 1. Start investing 2. Get driver’s license 3. Buy a camel coat Though seemingly trivial, items #3 from both lists are the most significant in their category. I’ve been putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed for almost four years, proving that you can be 27 and still an awfully irresponsible adult. And since the winter began, I’ve browsed over 30 stores, both online and off, for that dang camel coat. Zara dropped the shoulders too…
The Glitter Knit
As the cold winter weather grows in strength, I always fall into a rut with my clothes. It happens year after year, a stretch of time when getting dressed becomes more a mission of bodily warmth than creative style. I despise it. In these mornings I open the closet and my hands, operating on auto-pilot, reach for the tank top + wooly knit combo that worked so well yesterday, and the day before, and OH YEAH, the day before that. Y’know sometimes in life, you just need a quick and nasty slap in the face – to remind you that…
Let’s Talk About It: The Pajama Trend
You know how sometimes when you’re walking through a Topshop or Zara-type store, there’s a certain trend that you keep seeing pop up. Like for example, right now – if you keep your eyes peeled – you will spot random embellishments and patch embroidery on all types of clothing. Skirts, button downs, jean jackets, you name it. These trends begin their journey subtle, inconspicuous, then, with the blink of an eye they’re everywhere, flying off racks. In reality, everyone has their own propensity in taking to fashion trends, and I realize I actually buy into them later than other style…
