Today, I am feeling fiercely independent and empowered as a woman. Don’t worry, I’m not about to spew all my emotions (I have many) on what it is to be female, but instead let me share with you some reasons why today is special. One – the music scene has recently been LIT up with incredible and jaw-dropping displays by Solange, Angel Olsen, and Banks. Each of these women are unique in their own genres, with potential as high as the heavens. If you can, take a moment to indulge and watch/listen to their latest sound and visual art: 1….
The Long Sleeved Shirtdress
Epically popularized by ‘Miss Honey‘ in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the 1996 movie (at least in my head), the printed shirtdress lives on as a wardrobe staple for the working woman. The feminine floral dress complimented her gentle character, as she mentored little Matilda and her big brain (btw, she grew up to be quite the dry humored tweeter…). Even in the real world, the versatile dress is universally flattering and low maintenance. Personally, because of my straight shape, I prefer a design that is tied at the waist and weighted with slightly heavier material to create the illusion of curves….
The T-Shirt Dress
Dress code: business casual. Am I the only one who gets slightly anxious when seeing those words on an invite? Do they want me to show up in blazer? Is a pencil skirt too much? Perhaps I could get away with wearing black skinnies… Girl-code dictates it’s always better to be overdressed than under-dressed. But let’s be honest, nobody wants to be the only stiff girl standing in a matching suit and pant (unless you’re wearing it à la the 1970’s YSL x Helmut Newton’s Le Smoking suit – in which case, let me catch my breathe because I LOVE YOU)….
The Striped Top
I’ve always admired the French, with their sophistication and savoir-faire. They have a way of being impossibly cool and effortlessly chic, served with a side of nonchalance (also known as, don’t-give-a-f*ck). So when I’m feeling inspired and wanna look Parisian, there’s only one piece that comes to mind. Nothing says French more than a simple striped shirt. THE UTILITY: La marinière (also known as the Breton Top) originated in the early 19th century with the French navy – the striped uniform was designed to help distinguish overboard sailors from the waves of the sea. I wonder if maybe a color…
3 Fall Essentials You Need
And just like that, we’ve hit the fall season like a young pup hits a screened-door. Caught off guard and slightly confused. You can deny it all you want, but temperatures are dropping and necklines are rising – it’s almost time to even put your aircon away, gasp. Trust me, I’m just as annoyed as you are. I only got a tan twice this summer: the first was during a 150 mile fundraising bike ride under the blaring sun, who gifted me the most direct and unmistakable farmer’s tan via our team jersey. I then spent the second opportunity trying…
