It’s been a long cold winter, and my toes have officially frozen off. Yikes. I know Belgium is nowhere where near the negative double-digit temps of Boston, but jezus can a girl get a little sun here!? Nearly every day is covered and cloudy… The sun doesn’t even stay awake longer than office hours, so yeah, we’re pretty much just zombies getting dressed and walking around in the dark here. Thank god for Will Smith’s instagram, feeding us those feel good videos.
Inevitably, there are pieces that you fall back and back and back on, and these pair of pants I’m about to introduce are my ultimate safety. I’ve been wearing these for years. Honestly I don’t even know how many meetings, restaurants, clubs, and cities these pants have partied, but I sure as hell know there are many more to come. I can be my most professional self when I walk into an office, and the next moment, a laid-back version you can grab a beer and bike through the city with. The cinched waist gives me shape, the tapered length gives me height. All of it gives me confidence.

For my office look, I’ve thrown on an incredibly luxe piece from Uniqlo, which has a bronze shine reminiscent of Greek antiques. It is tucked neatly but billowy into my pants, creating a relaxed yet tailored contrast. And the BEST part of this richly elegant look is how complementary my small jade fish-shaped earrings lay atop. As a gift from my favorite Aunt growing up, it’s probably the most Oriental thing I own and a prized treasure. I finally understand why all those little Asian woman get so nutso about this precious jewel… Now flip this whole aesthetic right on it’s head, and watch how quickly the same pair of high-waist pants becomes the cornerstone of a totally different & urban look.
